JACKSONVILLE, FL –
Bill Cellar, president and founder of
Providence Homes, received the prestigious 2004 Dick Baker Memorial Award
at the Laurel Awards on April 2nd.
The Laurel Awards are held annually by the Northeast Florida Builders
Association (NEFBA). The late Dick Baker, 1993 NEFBA president, exemplified
civic duty with his constant commitment to organizations and volunteer
projects in Jacksonville. This award recognizes individual members for their
commitment to the home building industry and the community.
Bill Cellar embodies the selfless, humble, giving spirit of the Dick Baker
Memorial Award. Providence Homes received special recognition throughout
2003, first for their contributions to the I.M. Sulzbacher Center for the
Homeless and later for the construction of the "House for HOPE."
"I believe Bill Cellar sets an example to everyone in
and out of the construction industry as to what it takes
to be a great leader," said Sean Junker, Providence Homes'
Chief Operating Officer. "His success is embodied by his
generosity, and he continues to give back to the community
and the less fortunate around the world. I personally
have learned much from Bill and look up to and admire
his sincerity, faith, and ability to live what he believes."

Cellar's most recent community initiative has been The Providence Homes'
"House for HOPE" in River Hills Reserve at Fleming Island Plantation. As
part of the project, the homebuilder invited his subcontractors and
suppliers to donate their time, labor, and materials to reduce the building
cost of the home. The home was sold in September 2003, and the $100,000 net
profit was given to HOPE International, a faith-based, non-profit
organization that grants microloans to the indigent in Third World
countries. Because of the organization's 99% loan repayment rate, HOPE
International estimates that Cellar's contribution could help as many as
20,000 people over the next 10 years. Cellar is the first builder on the
First Coast to pledge the profits from the sale of one his company's custom
homes to this nonprofit organization.
In its first ever companywide fundraising effort last year, Providence Homes
worked with its employees and subcontractors to raise more than $5,000, and
Bill Cellar, president of Providence Homes, matched each dollar contributed
by his company's staff. Their contribution is expected to provide a homeless
man, woman or child with almost 15 months of shelter, which includes a bed
and three nutritious meals.
Though he would never bring himself to discuss it, Cellar gives back to the
community through numerous faith-based, non-profit organizations. He
travels extensively throughout Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean to
work on a wide range of health, youth development, nation-building, and
leadership initiatives all centered around Jesus of Nazareth.
His company has received numerous Parade of Homes Awards for design
excellence and, INC. Magazine has recognized it twice as one of the Top 500
fastest growing companies in America. The Jacksonville Business Journal has
consistently ranked Providence Homes on their Top 50 Fastest Growing
Businesses. Cellar is a member of the Board of Directors of the Northeast
Florida Builders Association and a member of the National Association of
Home Builders.
Cellar attributes his success as much to the lessons taught by his earthly
father as those from the heavenly Father. "I feel very fortunate and
humbled that God has allowed me do what I really love to do with a group of
wonderful, talented people and to try to give back a little of His love for
my neighbor, whether in Jacksonville or around the world," he said.
Providence Homes was founded in 1992 by company president, Bill Cellar. As
Providence Homes celebrates their Twelfth Anniversary, Bill Cellar continues
to build upon the philosophy that homeowners deserve the best he can give.
The team of professionals at Providence Homes is committed to building every
home as if they were building it for their own family. That degree of care
