JACKSONVILLE, FL –
Providence Homes is always looking for ways to contribute
to the community in which they build so last week they
teamed up with HabiJax and participated in the 2006
Habitat for Humanity’s Home Builders Blitz.
Habitat for Humanity’s Home Builders Blitz was
a nationwide effort that paired Habitat for Humanity
affiliates, HabiJax being the local affiliate, with
professional homebuilders in order to construct more
than 1000 homes in one week. The Home Builders Blitz,
which is in partnership with The Northeast Florida
Builders Association, is the single largest contribution
to affordable housing in US history.
Providence Homes built a beautiful 3-bedroom, two-bathroom
house with over 1300-square-feet in space. The
home was a Craftsman series that featured brick columns
and two front porch planters. The kitchen was
stocked with Whirlpool appliances, an enlarged kitchen
pantry with ventilated shelving, and designer oak raised
panel cabinets. The interior of the home featured 9-foot
vaulted ceilings and ceramic tile flooring in the kitchen,
foyer, baths, and laundry area. This adorable
home was built in McNair Park, the HabiJax community.
The home was built for Demetrius Hall and his 13-year-old
son and 11-year-old daughter. Hall didn’t plan
on taking anything for granted and spent almost every
day helping to build his very own home.
McNair Park Villas is a 94-home community built on a
51-acre site that is adjacent to a public elementary
school and park. HabiJax was selected by the Jacksonville
Housing Authority (JHA) to be the construction partner
for the 94-single homes that will occupy 18 acres of
the site. The rest of the property will be filled
with 228 multifamily apartments, a 100-unit senior living
facility and a new community center that will house a
medical facility and Head Start Center, all of which
will be provided by the JHA. Utilizing funds from
the NFL and in honor of Super Bowl XXXIX. On nearby property,
The Boys and Girls Club will build and operate the Youth
Education Center (YET).
