JACKSONVILLE, FL –
Perhaps no one understands the importance of a having
a home more than a homebuilder, which is why Providence
Homes has been recognized by the I.M. Sulzbacher Center
for the Homeless for donating more than $5,000 to its
annual fundraising campaign, Transformations.
In its first ever companywide fundraising effort, Providence
Homes worked with its employees and subcontractors to
raise the money, and Bill Cellar, president of Providence
Homes, matched each dollar contributed by his company’s
staff. Their contribution is expected to provide almost
15 months of shelter, which includes a bed and three
nutritious meals, for a homeless man, woman or child.
Cellar serves on the board of directors for the Sulzbacher
Center.
Transformations is a tribute to the individuals whose
lives have been changed by their experiences at the
Center. This year’s benefit celebrated the 632
men, women and children who lived at the Center this
past year and are now in homes of their own.
“Providence was one of the top ten teams recognized
center stage during the Transformations award ceremony,”
Julie Handley, Director of Major Gifts, for the Sulzbacher
Center. “This is the first time that Providence
Homes has participated in this fundraising effort. The
446 nights of shelter they were able to raise is a significant
gift to the Sulzbacher Center, and it will help us meet
the growing need for food and shelter.”
Handley said that the recent economic downturn has
been especially difficult. Over the past 23 months,
the Center has served more than 305,000 meals plus has
been at 102% to 107% of capacity every single night.
The mission of the I.M. Sulzbacher Center for the Homeless
is to provide housing and support services for homeless
men, women and children in a setting that encourages
responsibility and offers the opportunity for independence
and self-sufficiency in a challenging and dignified
manner. They work to educate and collaborate with the
community and to provide leadership as advocates against
systematic barriers that cause homelessness.
Cellar and Providence Homes give back to the community
through numerous faith-based, non-profit organizations.
He has traveled extensively throughout Africa, Latin
America, and the Caribbean to work on a wide range of
health, youth development, nation-building, and leadership
initiatives all centered around Jesus of Nazareth.
